Versatility is always a warriors asset, and of all medieval swords few embody it as well as the Bastard Sword. Too short to be a dedicated two-handed sword, yet longer than the single-hand sword, the bastard hand and a half swords give the warrior the option for single or double handed use. Balanced well enough for one hand, with two the sword becomes a truly effective slash and thrust sword. An elongated pommel acts as an extended grip for leverage and the blade is wide enough midway to allow for a well-gripped half-sword thrust technique.First appearing in the late 13th century, hand and a half swords reached an apex of popularity in the 15th and 16th centuries and were particularly favored in Switzerland and the German principalities. This Cold Steel Hand and a Half Sword is from their Man-At-Arms collection. The sharp 1055 High carbon steel blade is blued for a dark, protective finish and the hilt of steel is blued to match. The grip wrapped in black leather and the blade tang is screwed into place with a pommel nut. Comes with a black leather scabbard with a blackened metal chape and throat.

I'm hesitant to buy a cold steel sword for cutting form training. I heard the handles are bad. Is their balance good? Is it worth buying with a 250-300€ budget? I don't
